NEW FARM LANE CEMETERY

A Message from the Cemetery Working Group Nov 2023;

All Sunken graves will be filled in and seeded in the Spring

2023 Cemetery review

The Cemetery working group comprising of Michael Spencer, Rita Spencer and Jayne Baumber with the help of  Sue Stack (Clerk) and Steve (Council Employee) have had a very busy year at Nuthall Cemetery.

The contractor has mowed and strimmed the grass around the graves. The conifers around the cemetery have been trimmed and topped.

The cremation section of the cemetery, near the gate is now full and a new one has been established further up the cemetery.

The children's cemetery has been well maintained by the council staff. The box hedge has been regularly cut and a number of seasonal flowers have been put in the planters.

The roses near the hedge have been replaced by Steve in the rose garden near the cremation plaques as the other ones had died.

The cemetery working group have met regularly at the cemetery and have spent their time tidying it up and removing dangerous objects, They have been stored so that grave owners can get them back.

Thankfully, grave owners have listened to our plea not to put glass on graves as it causes a Health and Safety hazard when grass cutting.

Sadly recently we have had some vandalism at the cemetery - a broken window and the back of a seat removed.

After Christmas we will tidy up items left from Christmas and fill in and seed graves in the Spring.

Issued 29th November 2023

Situated off Back Lane the Cemetery was established in the 1930’s after the grave yard at St Patrick’s Church was full.

Owned, managed and maintained by the Parish Council, which is very unusual within the Broxtowe Borough, it is a quiet haven for those dear departed and their families.

Regrettably due to a shortage of available spaces graves are no longer offered for sale on a pre-purchase basis and plots are allocated by the Council in strict rotation to ensure that the grave digging contractors can get access to carry out their task.

You can view an updated version of the cemetery map (December 2015) by clicking here . This is provided in Excel spreadsheet format so that, once downloaded, you can search the map for specific family names (which may not be readily visible on the spreadsheet due to the constraints of cell sizes). Your browser may simply show the file as a download at the bottom of your screen, and you can open it from there, or it may go to your default downloads folder and you will need to open it from there.

The Council have responded to changing times and now offer ashes burial spaces for one or two caskets of ashes in the front section of the Cemetery.
